Tumbleweed by Michał Zapała (a.k.a. Mike Zapawa) was voted the Best Combinatorial 2-Player Game of 2020 at BoardGameGeek.
Towers claim cells by line of sight. Control the majority of a hex board.
Inventor: Mike Zapawa
Published listing: BoardGameGeek: Tumbleweed.
A cell belongs to you if you occupy it, or if you have the majority of lines of sight onto it from existing towers. Score is the number of cells you own. The game ends on consecutive passes after at least four plies, or if both scores are unchanged for 20 plies. Higher score wins; equal scores are a draw.
An even-swap pie rule applies.
Empty hexhex, default size 8.
Place or reinforce a tower, or capture a cell you see more of than the opponent. You may pass.
You may not place where the opponent just placed.
On the first turn, place a 2-stack neutral piece and a 1-stack of each colour.
