Amazons is a two-player game played on a 10×10 board. Each player has four queens (the eponymous amazons). Each turn, you move one of the queens and then shoot an arrow from your final square. The arrow causes that square to become blocked for the rest of the game. Queens and arrows cannot cross blocked squares or squares occupied by other queens. The winner is the last player who is able to move.

Abstract Play supports three different initial set-ups of the queens around the edge of the board: on opposite halves, alternating pairs of queens, and alternating individual queens.

If the player to move has no legal amazon-plus-arrow sequence, they lose. The opponent is the last player who could complete a turn.

10×10 board. Each player has four amazons. Default placement puts each colour's queens on opposite halves of the board.

Move one of your amazons any number of empty squares like a chess queen (straight orthogonal or diagonal lines). Then shoot an arrow from that amazon's new square, again like a queen, onto an empty square. The arrow permanently blocks that square.

Amazons and arrows cannot pass through occupied or blocked squares.

Queens of the same colour sit across from each other.

Queens alternate colour around the board.
